New product online: Cornet 33 cl

Cornet is a top-fermented beer produced by a brewery called De Hoorn.Cornet

De Hoorn was a small brewery at Steenhuffel that has disappeared over time. But Palm Craft Brewers decided to rebuild the brewery in order to brew small craft beers in a very low quantity (they will be called ‘Arthur’s legacy’). The first beer by ‘De Hoorn’ is already a straight hit: Cornet.

And today I’m introducing it to you. It’s now available to order on my webshop.

This exclusive beer is a blond Belgian beer with a subtle wood, vanilla and bitter flavor. It has a 8,5 % alcohol level.

Important: Cornet won gold at the World Beer awards! (WBA)

Tip: if you like Duvel, don’t hesitate to order this one, you will love it.

You should definitely try it!

Recipe: Beef stew with brown spiced biscuits & Grimbergen

Yes! We are famous for our beer, waffles and French fries… But another total classic is our Belgian stew. You can prepare it in many different ways (ask any Belgian grandmother …. ;-)) So today, I’m sharing one recipe to make it. It was my first time and it went really well! Only I had a bit of bad luck with the meat… sometimes it’s hard to get it soft.

But you have to take your time. You have to have a lot of patience, but your patience will be rewarded, believe me!

What do you need? (4 pers.)

  • 1 spoon of flower
  • a bit of butter
  • 30 cl Grimbergen Blond (BEEERR!!)
  • 1  spoon of mustard
  • 1 kilo beef
  • 4  small onions
  • lots of herbs!
  • pepper and salt
  • oil
  • 3 spoons bouillon
  • 50 g Speculaas (brown spiced biscuits)
Heat the oil (small pieces) and put your onions in a big stew-pan on a low fire. Meanwhile, take another pan and put some oil and butter in it. Put it on a high fire. It has to be really hot before you put your meat in it. Then, bake your meat until it has a nice and crusty brown layer (it has to happen fast).
After that, put the flower on your onions and poor your beer on it. When that is done, you can add your meat. Also add some (25 cl) water, your herbs and bouillon.
Now you have to play the waiting came!!
You should at least let it on a really low fire for an hour and a half.
Then, you can add your brown spiced biscuits (crumb!) And of course some pepper and salt.

DELICIOUS!

Good luck! And let me know if you have questions…

Background …??!

Hi there!

Quick message to let you know that I’m working on a new background for the beer bottles. I like this background a lot! I have no photoshop experience, but tried some tutorials to make my logo look ‘burned’ into the wood. I like! But it has to be smaller of course. What do you think?

Any suggestions?

Love,

Cathy

Historium & Duvelorium

Hello everyone!

This weekend we payed a little visit to our neighbors 🙂

We started out at the Historium. You really need to go there with an open mind. It’s more of an experience and attraction than a museum. You are led into different chambers and with the audio guide you can follow a story. It’s made really life like with special effects (music, scent, objects)… It’s an ‘ancient’ love story (15th century), but I will not tell you anything about the content. No spoilers ;-). I think the tour was about 35 minutes.

After that you can have a drink at the Duvelorium. If you adore Duvel, you really need to go there. And you will definitely go crazy. I added some pictures so you can get an idea. Sorry for the poor iPhone-quality, but I didn’t have my fancy camera with me…

You can also buy three little beers to taste the different beers of Moortgat. You always get other beers. This time we had a ‘La Chouffe‘, ‘Maredsous‘ and ‘Liefmans‘. Price: 8,5 euros. (Click on the beers to order them online at my webshop Taste Belgium)

After that, you should of course visit the Bruges Beer Museum. It’s next door!

See you soon?!

Cathy

Préaris Quadrupel

Hi folks!

Here I am again 🙂

We tasted another beer last night, the Préaris Quadrupel.

In 2011 it was chosen to be the best hobby beer in Belgium. It has a 10% alcohol level.

We have chosen this beer, because it is brewed nereby! Only 5 kilometers from our door.  Unbelievable, right? The brewery is called ‘Vliegende paard brouwers’. If I try to translate it from Dutch to English: ‘The flying horse brewers’. Crazy name 😉

It has an aroma of burned malt, caramel, a little bit of vanilla & dark fruit. I think it would perfectly fit after a meal, as a dessert.

Cheers!

Cathy

New product online: Martin’s IPA

Hi everybody!

And again… a new beer online.  Also rather new and hoppy! I guess you are starting to know my favorite beers now… 🙂

A British IPA (Indian Pale Ale) with a peppery approach, a bit bitter but not aggressively.  A real great ale « made in England ». God save that Beer !

Visit my website: www.tastebelgium.com to order it!

See ya,

Cathy

Dear all,

There is a new product online in my webshop! I personally like this beer very much.

If you are ready to go wild, you should try the new Straffe Hendrik Wild. You can taste the aroma hops, it goes perfectly along with the hints of citrus & apricot. This beer is from the brewery ‘De Halve Maan’ it’s also known for their Brugse Zot.

They have just opened a new brewery room (yesterday was the official inauguration) but I will blog about that later!

Cheers,

Cathy
